How to stretch part of a picture

  1. Open a PNG, JPEG, BMP or HEIC image: browse, drag it in or paste it.
  2. Drag the box over the part you want to change, or type its position and size, then choose Stretch this area.
  3. Drag the right, bottom or corner handle, or type the New width and New height. The preview shows the result.
  4. Choose Apply stretch. Undo takes it back. Then choose a format and select Save image.

Grow the picture or keep its size?

Picture grows or shrinks stretches the whole band across the picture that runs through your area. Making a building 100 pixels taller makes the picture 100 pixels taller, and everything above and below the band stays exactly as it was. Use it when the new size of the picture does not matter, for example to lengthen a road or widen a banner background.

Picture stays the same size stretches the area and squeezes the parts beside it to make room, so the picture keeps its width and height. The change fades out over the blend distance above, below and to each side, and nothing farther away moves. A larger blend distance spreads the squeeze more thinly and is harder to notice.

Stretching resamples pixels, so a large stretch looks softer. Plain or repeating areas such as sky, walls, water and backgrounds stretch most convincingly.

Formats and size

The tool opens PNG, JPEG and BMP images, and HEIC photos in Safari on an iPhone, iPad or Mac, and saves as PNG, JPEG or BMP. PNG keeps transparency; JPEG and BMP fill transparent areas with the background colour you choose.

Pictures up to 4096 × 4096 pixels are edited at full size. A larger picture can be edited as a reduced copy. A stretch that would make the picture larger than 4096 pixels on a side, or more than 16,777,216 pixels in total, is refused with a message.
