Fix Photo Dates in Bulk
Was the camera's clock wrong? Correct the date and time of one photo, and every photo moves by the same amount, so they stay in order with the same time between them. Works on many JPEG photos at once; the pictures themselves are not changed.
Processed locally — your photos stay on your device.
How to fix the dates of many photos at once
- Choose all the photos taken while the camera's clock was wrong.
- The tool lists them in the order they were taken. Pick one whose real date and time you know, often the first of the day; it is chosen for you to start with.
- Enter when that photo was really taken: year, month, day, and the time in 24-hour form.
- Check the After the fix column. Every photo moves by the same amount, shown above the list.
- Choose Download corrected photos. Several photos come in one ZIP file; a single photo downloads on its own.
Because every photo moves by exactly the same amount, their order and the time between any two of them stay exactly as the camera recorded them. This is right when the whole set was taken with one wrong clock setting. If the clock was changed part way through, fix each part separately.
What changes and what stays the same
The date taken changes in every place the photo keeps it: its EXIF information, and the XMP and IPTC copies that photo apps also read. The fraction of a second and any time-zone offset the camera recorded are kept. The tool does not guess a time zone the camera did not record.
Everything else stays: the picture itself is not re-saved, so there is no loss of quality, and the camera's own data, location and descriptions are kept. A photo with no date taken, or a date that is not a real date, is listed and left out rather than guessed.
Photo apps and cloud services that have already imported your photos may keep their own copy of the old dates. Import the corrected copies to see the new order there.
To change one photo's date, location or other details by hand, use the Photo Date, Location & Metadata Editor.
