Edit Photo Date, Location and EXIF Metadata

See what a photo says about when and where it was taken. Fix the date or the location, add a description or your name, or remove private details before you share it. You get a new copy; the picture itself is not changed.

How to change a photo's date or location

  1. Open the photo. Doodleden shows when and where it says it was taken, and any description or names in it.
  2. Choose a task: fix the date, fix or remove the location, add a description or name, or remove private details. You can do more than one.
  3. Check the list of changes, then choose Save new copy. Your original file stays as it was.

The date inside a photo and the date of the file

A photo carries its own record of when it was taken, written by the camera or phone. Photo apps such as Google Photos, Apple Photos and Windows Photos sort pictures by this date. Your computer also shows dates for the file itself, such as when it was created or last changed on that computer.

Doodleden changes the date inside the photo. It cannot change the file dates: your browser gives the saved copy the date and time you save it. When you import the copy into a photo app, the app uses the date inside the photo.

Many photos do not record a time zone. Doodleden never adds one by guessing; if you choose one, it is written alongside the date and the time itself stays as you entered it.

What changes and what stays the same

Only the information you change is written. The picture is not opened and saved again, so its quality is exactly the same, and every other piece of information, including the camera maker's own data, stays in the copy. Each change is written everywhere the photo keeps that information, so different apps agree on it.

Before you get the copy, Doodleden reads it back and checks that each change is there and that the picture data is byte for byte the same as in your original.

"Everything that is not needed to show the photo" keeps only the setting that turns the photo the right way up and its colour profile. Some files can hold information Doodleden does not recognise, such as data added by special apps; that is removed with Everything, but it is kept when you remove only the location or names.

To hide something that is visible in the picture itself, such as a house number or a face, use Blur, Pixelate or Redact an Image.

Private by design

Your photo is opened and read inside your browser. It is not uploaded to a Doodleden server, and nothing about it is stored. The location is never sent to a map or place service.
