Image Converter
Change an image's file format. Open a JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF, SVG, AVIF, HEIC or ICO image and save it as PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF or an ICO icon, without uploading it.
Processed locally — your image stays on your device.
Need exact dimensions? Use the Image Resizer. Need a smaller file? Use the Image Compressor. Have many images? Use the Bulk Image Resizer.
How to convert an image
- Choose, drop or paste an image. SVG drawings also ask for the size in pixels to draw them at.
- Under Output format, choose PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF or ICO.
- Set any options for that format: quality for JPEG and WebP, a background colour for JPEG and BMP, or icon sizes for ICO.
- Select Convert image, check the preview and download the result.
The converter keeps the image's dimensions. To change them, crop or rotate, use the Image Resizer; to make a file smaller or fit a size limit, use the Image Compressor.
GIF and animated images
Doodleden™'s image tools work with still images only. An animated GIF is converted using its first frame, so the result is a single still picture and the animation is not kept. The same applies to animated WebP, AVIF or PNG files. GIF files Doodleden™ creates are also still images; it does not create animations.
SVG conversion
An SVG is a vector drawing: shapes and lines that can be drawn sharply at any size. PNG, JPEG, WebP, GIF, BMP, TIFF and ICO are raster formats made of a fixed grid of pixels. Converting an SVG draws it once at the raster width and height you choose, starting from the size the SVG declares. Choose the largest size you are likely to need, because the converted image no longer scales like the original drawing.
Doodleden™ draws the SVG as an image only. Any scripts inside it do not run, and it cannot load fonts, pictures or anything else from the internet.
HEIC, TIFF, ICO and AVIF
HEIC/HEIF is the format iPhones use for photos. Safari 17 or later, on a Mac, iPhone or iPad, can open HEIC photos here and convert them. Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot open HEIC by themselves; adding that would mean sending a large HEVC decoder to every visitor, under patent and licence terms Doodleden™ does not take on. In those browsers, Doodleden™ tells you so rather than producing a damaged result. iPhones can also save photos as JPEG instead of HEIC.
Doodleden™ does not create HEIC files. No browser can create them, and the HEVC encoders that could are covered by patents and copyleft licences.
TIFF images open in every supported browser. Doodleden™ reads the first page of the file, with or without LZW, PackBits or Deflate compression. A few kinds of TIFF, such as those that store JPEG data inside, open only in Safari; for those, Doodleden™ explains what to do.
ICO files hold the same icon at several sizes. Doodleden™ opens the largest one and tells you how many sizes the file held.
AVIF images open in current browsers, but browsers cannot create AVIF files, so it is not offered as an output yet.
Private by design
The Image Converter reads, converts and saves your image inside your browser. Your file is not uploaded to a Doodleden™ server, and nothing about it is stored. SVG files cannot fetch anything from the internet while they are converted.
Files are processed in your browser and are not uploaded to or stored by Doodleden™. This site is funded by advertising; our ad partners use cookies and similar technologies as described in our privacy policy.
